Overview
Ladies, this dress is pure magic. I tried on 70+ dresses and still landed on this one. The sheer illusion neckline, the gold and silver belt, the gold thread woven into the lace, 6 layers of tulle with floral lace appliques, the horse hair trim, it's a true dream. The way it photographs is sensational--because when you walk, the tulle sweeps behind you and you see the silk layer hugging your curves underneath, like two dresses in one. I had a lot of trouble figuring out whether I wanted a sleek silhouette or a ballgown/a-line one, and this one affords you both.
Alterations
I did not have this dress hemmed and instead wore platform heels from Badgley Mischka (having 6 layers all hemmed is 6x the hemming cost) and it was the perfect length. I'm 5'5. The heels have a 1/2 inch platform.
I also had this dress specially bustled by a seamstress on Newbury Street in Boston ($650 value). She put together a system that is simple to follow, and I can send you the instructional video we shot at her boutique when you purchase the gown. Soft, nude cups are also sewn into the bustline since it's sheer. I also had the shoulders reinforced with a bit more tulle because the top is delicate and it held up through all the dancing and running around I did on my wedding day. The waist and rest of the gown was left unaltered.
Accessories
This gown pairs beautifully with a long veil. I purchased the "Invisiveil" in butterscotch, which coordinated with the champagne color of this dress flawlessly. As the name implies, this is the sheerest of veils that gives you the look without covering the gorgeous detailing in the dress. I'm throwing it in there for free. Retail cost was $340. http://tonifederici.com/veils/invisiveil/
