The gown was custom fit. The bust is measured at 34” in circumference and the waist is measured at 24” in circumference. Dimensions of the overall dress are as follows: 52” high, 42” wide (width of a-line skirt), and 81” long (from front of a-line skirt to end of cathedral-length train). The object is strapless, with a dropped torso bodice, an a-line full skirt and cathedral-length train. The gown’s shell is 100% silk, with a 100% acetate lining and crinoline. It is sewn, hand-beaded and embroidered. The bodice features sterling silver embroidery, with glass beads and plastic sequins ornamenting the full bodice. Design of the bodice is a floral pattern: embroidery makes up leafage and swirl design, while cylindrical glass beads and circular sequins outline and fill in five-petal flowers. The skirt is undecorated.
- DRESS ALTERATIONS
- No alterations necessary since the gown was custom fit. Attached to the crinoline are three ribbons that tie together to form a “French bustle”. An extra layer of bodice lining is included near the bust line (in the shape of two breast cups) to accept an extra layer of padding, if needed.
- VEIL / HEADPIECE DESCRIPTION
- Ivory veil, attached by a comb. The veil is waste length. No blusher veil. Very simple.
- PRESERVATION METHOD
- The gown was cleaned and preserved by Imperial Gown Restoration Co. in 2002. The gown was dry-cleaned rather than wet-cleaned. They used a petroleum-based dry-cleaning agent. It is now in an archival box with acid-free paper and UV protection.
