If you are a slight woman with average breasts but unassuming hips and bottom, this is the dress that will make your tiny figure POP! It is a dramatic look, accomplished with very little. No beads, no ribbons, no lace - just artful folds that give elegance to the sultriness of a dress that fits snug as a glove. You'll look like you've strolled off the set of All About Eve.
The dress is 100% polyester with a soft, subtly shiney satiny finish. Its defining feature is how closely it hugs the waist and accentuates the bosom, for a striking but classic hourglass look. This look is accomplished with
- a very sturdy built-in corset (with hooks, no lace-up, and hidden inside so it is not seen),
- careful alterations making the fit snug
- asymetrical pleating down the left side that accentuates the width of the hips and, by contrast, the narrowness of the waist.
The result is a sort of 1950s movie diva look. The back of the gown is lower (not trashy low, this is a classic look!), showing off the back, and it has folds that compliment the front pleating. This makes for a tush that turns heads. What a nice change for those of us without much in the way of a bottom!Advantages: It's classic, it's dramatic, it compliments tiny figures beautifully.Disadvantages: 1) You need to fit the measurements or be smaller. Not a lot of wiggle room. 2) The hem at the bottom of the very back has dirt and grass stains and slight fraying. You'll need to get it cleaned and possibly remove some of the hem. The dress already had a very short brush train, so if you need to remove some of the hem, there may be no train in the end. - DRESS ALTERATIONS
- I chopped off much of the train. The seamstress left a brush train - enough for you to play with it a bit if you so choose. No bustle was added, clearly. Since the train is so short, I found it was unnecessary. The corset is very sturdy. The seamstress expected to have to sew in cups and fortify the corset, as she often does on wedding dresses - but she said, with some surprise, that that was not necessary for this dress. Having worn it, I can guarantee that if you're the appropriate size, it will not fall down. The seamstress altered the sides, bringing it in to fit the waist snugly.
- VEIL / HEADPIECE DESCRIPTION
- I am not selling the headpiece I wore, but to give you an idea (and the pictures will show this too, of course) of what you can do... I complimented the classic look of the dress with a short net veil. It's really more of a fascinator with a little bit of net. I stuffed some bright green feathers into my hair and that was that.
- PRESERVATION METHOD
- The dress is a year and a half old. It has been kept in the original garment bag in a closet, touched by no one and unmolested by bugs or damp. A week ago, I had FedEx carefully package it for travel. It is well preserved and ready to go!
