- DRESS DETAILS
-
This dress is silk satin-faced organza with sheer netting sleeves, a high neckline, functioning buttons (plus a zipper), and 9 small satin-faced organza bows going down the center back. This dress would be amazing even for someone who doesn't want sleeves because the netting could be entirely removed and the neckline could be changed into a sweetheart. If you wanted to wear the dress as it is, the sleeves wouldn't really restrict your movement because the netting has some stretch to it because it contains spandex. It is a jewel neckline, so is very modest, but it is still sheer.
Silk satin-faced organza buttons go all the way down the back of the dress, which has a chapel-length train. However, on a shorter bride( I'm 5'-10), you could hem the front and leave the train the same length so it would actually appear to be a longer train. The buttons start at the nape of the neck and the first 38 buttons are fastened with loops that stop at the low waist. The top of the 14" zipper starts 11.5" below the nape of the neck, which is where the dress bodice starts and the netting ends.
The 9 small bows are satin-faced organza and are about 4" wide and at their highest, about 3" tall. They are spaced with 8 buttons in between each bow.
Although this dress is A-line, it could definitely be made into a trumpet shaped skirt. The top layer is lined with silk organza and has a tiny rolled hem, so you can see the stitching, but it's very neat. This layer is attached at the side seams and at the base of the train to a lining layer that contains a 3" nylon horsehair braid to "fluff" the hem. There is no crinoline.
From the nape of the neck to the end of the train is 77 inches.
Immediately after the wedding I took the dress to Berthon's Cleaners in Birmingham Alabama, one of the best wedding dress cleaners. There was no alcohol served at the wedding and there were no stains on the dress before or after cleaning.
- DRESS ALTERATIONS
- The seamstress took the dress up in the bust and at the waist. She did very neat work. The bustle is an American bustle, but you could change it into a french bustle if you want to.
